Mirrors...

Post by kdrum60 » Mon Mar 07, 2016 4:36 pm

Why do the mirrors on the F-4 (and T-38) measure out to about 12 inches? I use a TrackIR 5 and my eye position is about 48" from a 27" screen set at 2560x1440. Screen is mounted on a Volair cockpit sim. Other sims are normal size 6-7"s. I use a NVidia GTX 970.

Well, they actually are 6-7 inches in the max model so it's probably that it's something in your view

You are correct about the actual size(6-7"). The view settings in FSXSE are default and the TrackIR 5 settings are default. If I zoom out to make the mirrors look like they are the correct size I feel like I am disconnected, or behind the seat I guess, hard to describe, and if you look 90 degrees left or right you see shoulder straps. Would screen shots help? or is this normal, or is there a tweak somewhere that I need to do?

the view is the view. There's nothing we can do about this afaik... they are in the correct location and the correct size vis a vis everything else...

Sorry.

Here are the default views. Can the eye point be adjusted?

You can adjust the eyepoint yourself, as well as the zoom level.

I don't have the F4 installed here, but the aircraft.cfg [Views] entry is similar to this from the F86:

[Views]
eyepoint= 5.65, 0, 5.65 (fore/aft, left/right, tilt up/down

You can also add a zoom=xx parameter to the [Views] section:

zoom=1.0 (lower to zoom out, higher to zoom closer)

We adjust eyepoint and zoom per our beta team's preference. Customers are free to modify for their own preferences.

Those settings did not work very well, however, through experimentation I came up with eyepoint= 16.7, 0, 3.875. Thanks for steering me in the right direction.

To be honest those mirrors don't even have any function at all? I just move them up while i'm flying and use rear views only.
But I do agree the VC view is a tad to close to the front panels.

Well, I did say that example was from the F86, which is not even going to be close to the F4's values... ;)
