Installation problems, bugs & CTD's

Post by doodlebug » Mon Sep 16, 2019 11:44 am

The wx can cause a CTD
- rename the MV_WXM.dll in the P3D modules folder

Font weirdness
- unzip https://www.dropbox.com/s/93z60wl3sxfp9 ... T.TTF?dl=0. right click on the .ttf files and select 'install for all users'

Nasty nighlighting
- this is not correct in this build. Please turn the lights off - it will be fixed in the next build

Installation error
-please uninstall any existing KA versions using the original installer's uninstall function or from the Windows control panel (whichever is applicable). Please check that there are no remaining KA folders in your MVAMS folder and subfolders AppData\Local\MVAMS\
- other planes have reported a issue caused by the Windows extraction tool. Use of the a third party tool (free) like 7 zip to extract the installer zip has solved the problem for certain users.

Hi,
I have just purchased and downloaded the KA350i on 25-Dec-2019, so I have to assume that I have the latest version,or do I (?).
I am also having a very regular CTD when I select the Wx radar on the MFD, although I see this post is a few months old now, so not a new issue.
I can find the MV_WXM.dll in the 'SimObjects/Airplanes/MV_King_Air_350i/Panel' folder, but I do not see it in the P3D Modules folder (?).
Your post says;
The wx can cause a CTD
- rename the MV_WXM.dll in the P3D modules folder
In the first instance, I do not find the file in 'Modules', and secondly you do not say what it should be renamed to!?
I will try to place a copy in the modules folder first and see what happens.
Otherwise can you kindly tell what it's new name should be please.

Many thanks,

Steve F.

When did you download it?
The current version (hotfix) is available here: http://milviz.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=105&t=11394
v1.191223

Hi doodlebug,
Thank you for the quick reply.
I have just purchased and downloaded the KA350i on 25-Dec-2019
I have copied the MV_WXM.dll file into the P3D modules folder without renaming (would not know what else to call it!?) and it now does not CTD when selected, although I have yet to try a flight in weather to see if it actually works.

I am guessing that the installer was not placing this file in the correct folder and that 'rename' should have been 'replace'.

I will check out the Wx operation and the hotfix and get back to you.

Many thanks,

Steve F.

The installer was placing the file in the correct location. If your P3D version is incorrect though, issues will occur.

Hi JonathanBleeker,
With respect, I only found the MV_WXM.dll file in the KA350i 'Panel' folder, it did not show anywhere else on my system.
I physically copied it to the P3D modules folder, after that I have not seen any CTD's, if it needed to be in the modules folder then I don't understand why the installer did not put it there (?), as yet I have not re-tested the Wx radar function.
I am running P3Dv4.5.13.32097
Many thanks,
Steve F.

The WXM.dll is placed by the installer in the panel folder so as not to interfere with those who have installed the REX WX radar, since this particular version is locked to the KA. Can you verify the version number of the sim1.dll in your P3D main folder please? Right click on it, select properties->Details. I have encountered users who have installed updates to the P3D client, but the previous version's dlls were not overwritten.

Hi again JonathanBleeker,

The P3D sim1.dll version is; 4.5.13.32097

Should I put the MV_WXM.dll file back into the panel folder then?

I just went to try it, but my AS wants to update now as well (!).

Many thanks for your help,

Steve F.

Try adding it back and if you get the CTD, make a new post with the error report please.

Hi JB,

Will do, but as far as I remember, there was no error report as such, it was literally a CTD, unless you can tell me where I might find a report or a log?

Cheers,

Steve F.

Hi again JB,

So, I take MV_WXM.dll out of the modules folder and place it back into the KA350i panel folder, once again, if I select the Wx RDR on the MFD I get the little 'blue wheel of death' followed by a direct 'CTD', I see no errors on the screen and I have no idea where to find an error log, I did search, but only found two 'Gyazo' files that had 'error' in the filename for this day/time, sorry.

I am going back in now to move the MV_WXM file back into P3D modules, spark-up some WX and see if it actually works from there (?).

Back soon, cheers,

Steve F.

You can enable content error reporting in P3D>Options>Application
The report will be in C:\Users\{username}\Documents\Prepar3D v4 Files\ContentErrors.txt.

You will also find a Windows error log here:
Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application

Scroll down to the Error (Red dot and then copy the text in the grey box below into your post.

Hi DB,

Sorry for the delay, I had a few real World chores that I had to get done before I was allowed back in the man-cave (!). :)

I did a flight with MV_WXM.dll in the modules folder, no CTD when Wx RDR selected, but also did not see any weather on the MFD (AS+ASCA was running), but I am aware that normal clouds often do not register, with hindsight I probably should have tweaked the Wx to see if I could get some content in the clouds, sorry I will do this going forward.

Ok, I turned on 'Content error reporting' in P3D shut-down and I have moved MV_WXM.dll back into the KA350i Panel folder, I restarted P3D, selcted the KA350i, started her up, powered up the avionics and selected the Wx RDR and CTD after a short session of the little blue wheel of "dont't disturb me, I'm thinking".

Please see the error reports below (I have only pasted the Milviz errors, although the complete file is attached below);

The error about the missing MilVizT50_navwhi.fx file has nothing to do with the KA 350i project. It is an .fx file included with the Cessna T50 Bobcat.

In any event I've attached the MilVizT50_navwhi.fx here so you can unzip it to your sim's ..\Effects folder to remove the error report from the ContentError.txt file.

..\Modules is an incorrect folder for the WX gauge file. It should be in the aircraft's ..\panel folder or the sim's ..\Gauges folder only.
