rotar looses power after A couple of minute

Post by nikbuchanan » Wed Aug 21, 2019 9:53 pm

Hi, This issue could well be me not doing something, or too much of something!

I have just purchased the MD530, and for the life of me I can not keep it in the air for more than A few minutes above 300ft

I am A complete novice when it come to flying A helicopter, are there any setting guides anywhere as to how to keep the chopper in the air?

I have Cyclic assigned to my joystick , collective to my throttle, and anti torque set to my pedals. I also have mixture assined to another axis?, is that the correct thing to do?.

I seem to be able to hover around at low altitude fine, get above A certain alt and the rotor just dies.

I am sure I am not pulling the fuel cutoff switch.

I am about to add my pc specs etc to my profile, sorry if not done before any troubleshooting begins.

Many thanks in advance

Did you know damage modeling was included in the 530? Over torque too long and you will get to practice those much needed autorotation skills.

Hi, Thanks for your reply.
I would think it is my piloting skills that are the problem, just trying to get it confirmed before I go mad and give in trying to fly the thing?

Can I turn down the realism of the sim?
every time I crash, I get reloaded back into the default plane, which is A pain.

I'm a very newbie in the helicopter world.
I noticed the same situation but after 7 seconds only and the engine is out.
Is it normal ?
Just to be sure that we are talking about the same thing.
The overtorque is obtained by pushing the throttle to the max for a long period of time (in my case a very short period of time).
Can someone tell me if I'm doing something else wrong ?

I finally dicovered in the specifications manual of the MD530F that the torque should be at about 48.9 psi and when cruising (needle up in the middle) and 59.6 for take off but not more then 4 minutes.
The add-on is not cheap but I really enjoy flying this helicopter (MD530F).
It doesn't go too fast (average 120 knots) and the sim have enough time to regen my ORBX sceneries without stutters (most of the time [ORBX TEGBS is heavy]).
I'm struggling a lot to land on a spot.
I woukld need a tutorial of how to land precisely on a helipad or whatever the spot.
Any advice or link would be appreciated.

Thank you !

For tips on landing, head on over here to Hover Control:

I think this site is no more updated and some of the links aren't working anymore.
Thank you anyway! :D

This one can be used for all your sim rotary needs. I can only suggest practice, with small inputs to all controls at once, much easier said then done. In the sim, highly suggest VR or Track IR for precision hovering. For the landing to a spot, from my RL training, we used a "fast walk" speed reference. As you continue to approach the spot, keep that speed as you continue to descend, so slowly decel to a hover.

I noticed when landing against the wind, controling the helicopter is a bit easier.
Also noticed that small imputs are tough to achieve.
I will revise the sensitivity of the controls of my Logitech G940.
For sure, with practice the maneuver is improving.

Thank you !
