Maximum speed not reached

Post by FSF6-5#Hr01 » Mon Sep 23, 2019 10:27 am

Hi,

I have tried everything I came up with but I cannot get the F100 to pass Mach 0.9 in level flight (and well above 30000 ft).
Afterburners work, sound, visual and fuel flow about 5000.
Also accelaration from standstill is with burner on hardly faster than without. It is even slower than the Milviz F86 that I also own.

Anybody has an idea?

stores? make sure your speedbrake isn't out even slightly. Also try a dipsy doodle where you accelerate in a dive past Mach 1 and then do a shallow climb maintaining higher than Mach 1.

My question still stands!
It is impossible to reach the mach 1.4 that the Supersabre should reach.
I fly a clean a/c, no stores, no speedbrake, 50% fuel, full afterburner and max fuel flow. Mach1.05 is all!

By the way: (Snuffy...) this IS the support forum right?

I believe it was in the general forum and now it has been moved to the support forum.

Did you try the dipsy-doodle maneuver?

No, I did not try that. I don't believe that is what they had to do in the real thing!
Like I mentioned some months ago, the effect of the afterburner on acceleration is negligable.
Maybe that is the problem!

Henk

By the way, I have the same problem with your T-38A, also impossible to fly faster than the speed of sound (level).

I have routinely gone supersonic and know personally that our FM on the T-38A is spot on the real thing, so I am going to have to put this down to technique. These aircraft don't have F-15 like thrust to weight ratios, and as such the acceleration is not going to be nearly the same. Technique is key, especially when climbing to altitude and ensuring that your AoA is low enough to get through the sound barrier.

I will add one item though regarding our T-38C if you got it before we had to take down, the T-38C's intakes prevent it from going much beyond Mach 1.05 and even that at a very limited portion of the flight envelope.
