Radio static noise

I just purchased the Navstax package. Pretty neat Bendix-King rendition. However, after installing it with MAVAMS I loaded up ready for flight. As soon as I turn on NAV 1 radio a loud static hiss fills the cockpit. Annoying to the point of unflyable. Any ideas?

There is the Navstax.com forum. Unfortunately, at least part of their forums appear to have suffered a hack.

Left-click on the KX165 volume knob to 'push it back in' to set the squelch!
