prop disc, rather a visual request

Hey guys,

I must say the more I fly the King Air the more she becomes my personal "business" queen in the hangar. I totally appreciate the amount of work you put into it to fix and further improve the airplane. And visually I find her to be a masterpiece. Simply beautiful.

However, this brings me to something that constantly disturbs my enjoyment. Please don't take this as a complaint, it's a request, constructive critisism I hope, even though I'll bring up the "but others did it so" stuff.

The propeller disc is always in the view, you always see the prop(s) and it simply looks bad. bamm. The props spooling up during engine start look great, beautifully modelled, but then it switches to a polygonal disc that looks like bad antialiasing or something, rather 2D, still spinning but somehow neglected. A2A or VertX (DA-62) propellers for example still look circular and like 3D props. As we're not looking at the King Air's props from straight behind but slightly from either side it would be great, if you could have a second look at them to improve the visuals. This would certainly make the cherry on the cake for me ;D

:)

Thanks,
Marc

I posted a photo from an actual propeller disc from a King Air 300 and people still complained stating the camera does not capture motion and was an incorrect representation of a propeller disc.

This is like clouds and water, no matter how MV chooses to represent the propeller disc people are going to complain about it. (People are already complaining about the clouds in the new MSFS!)

I think they have done 4 or 5 different propeller discs and the one we have got the most votes by the RW 350 pilots on the test team.

If I even suggest changing the propeller again we will have a rabid mongoose to deal with.

Just to be clear on the "prop issue" there are actually two separate objects that appear whenever the props are in the "blurred" state (high speed):
  1. A flat disk that is only seen from the front or back.
  2. A set of 200 'prop blades' that are pitch animated from coarse to fine to fully feathered when viewed from the side.

haha, I guessed this would be a sensitive topic :DD

As I made clear (I hope) this was definitely no "complaint" in any way, I love the visual appearance of the King Air and I know very well how hard it is to make the prop look "real". The thing that bothers me is the polygonal look, it doesn't look like a circle. Or is this my PC?? I'll certainly not insist on a perfect setup on my side :D

I use a 4K TV screen at 59Hz and 2xMSAA. Everything that should be round looks round. Except the props... They look like a hexadecagon or something.

Could it be that what I see (explained above) comes from a frequency or resolution issue of my screen? Your explanation definitely sounds like Milviz made a satisfying decision on this.

Here is the flat "blurred disk". Note that it is definitely round:

These are the "3d blurred blades" when viewed from the side. Shows pitch change from coarse to fine:

Ohkaayyy, thanks for those! It definitely looks different on my PC. I'll have a look at it and play around a little. Thanks for your effort!

@N4GIX,

Bill,

I have found that my scaling options Windows have been set to 150% which is recommended by Win10 on m system. Setting it to 100% solved this issue. The props look great now, thanks :D

Cheers,
Marc

I'm happy to learn you found the problem! :D
