C310Redux Altimeter Tool Tip in Millibars not Inches

Post by jfwharton » Sat Apr 14, 2018 2:53 am

I noticed that even though I have my settings set to U.S. System (feet, inches) when setting the altimeter in the C310 Redux the tool tip shows millibars instead of inches.

If you look closely, the window in the altimeter gauge is showing you inches. So you get both.

OK thanks. It's just that I like to use the tool tip to set the altimeter. It's easier than having to zoom in on the altimeter to read the setting and make the adjustment. Also, most of the aircraft I have provide both millibars and inches in the tool tip. Just wanted to see if I was missing something.

You did not miss anything. I too would like the tooltip to match the reading in the gauge window. That, and as totally a USA flyer with this model I would like for it to match the inches of mercury value used by NOAA. Also of interest, Sporty's Pilot Shop has an app for the iPad and Android, an electronic E6B, that has a conversions function and millibars to inches or vice versa is among those conversions. I use the app during flights to stay sharp on a multitude of flight metrics. Sometimes all this programmed GPS convenience makes it just too easy.

How many of you keep the "enabled failures" option checked in the Reality XP GTNs? What would you rely on if you experienced a failure? I have my aluminum wheel variety E6B as well, though I would run out of fuel refreshing my memory on how to properly use it.... Its been over 10 years since I last passed an online proficiency E6B test in allotted time, and sadly I cannot even find that or any equivalent online test today.

You know sometimes I feel as though I can't please anybody. I never even had a tooltip in the original release of the C310R, but decided to add one with millibars as a convenience to our customers who use the metric scale for setting their altimeter(s). :(

And I really like that you added the QNH tooltip in hectopascals, this way I can confirm that I read the correct value from my conversion chart (a simple HTML table I open in a browser) :)

Thought you did a good job of providing both. If you continue to get posts about it perhaps reverse the two. But please do keep both in place, one way or the other. If they use the excellent instrument lighting they can easily read the altimeter window.....

Here it is in a formatted table. I keep this as a pdf file on my iPad. Putting it here as a .jpeg. Should be able to use it on phone, tablet, or print for knee-pad (half-letter size)
