Air Data Computer drift

Post by Reds » Fri Mar 01, 2019 11:42 pm

Is there a way to mitigate the drift on the Air Data Computer or is it something inherant with the Phantom ?

Some of my waypoints are a long way off the flightplans , I wondered if there was a trick to being more accurate etc , maybe a way to compensate for the drift ?

It is inherent. You got 3 things you can do to alleviate it somewhat:

1: Figure out the magnetic variation at different points in the flight and update it accordingly (it uses the sim mag var)
2: Be aware of winds aloft (heading in true, not mag) and update the nav computer winds accordingly.
3: I believe there is an option to update the present position on the nav computer. I can't recall how it is done in the S/J though...I would need to see a picture of the nav control panel (I don't have it on my system at the moment).

Thanks for getting back to me .

Looks like I need to update the winds aloft more often . :D

Does the auto update position in Mvams work or is that legacy from the F4-E ?

Finding I have to update my position manually in order to get some accuracy .

I think so. I can't recall if I did it for the S/J as well. That said, the real jet had a CEP of around 26nm/hr or more. Its only good to get you into the general location of something and then let Mk1 eyeball or beacon take over.

Ok thanks Jonathon , after some practice I'm much better at navigating in the Phantom now , the creep makes it a very interesting jet to fly , keeps me busy in the cockpit thats for sure . :D
