F-4S : restarting an engine in flight

Post by vvince » Wed Apr 18, 2018 4:48 pm

Hello,

is this actually possible? I could not manage to do it...
I got quite often (during a long flight or when being not gentle enough with the stick...) one engine shutting down.
While it is still possible to perform an emergency landing, it would be nice to be able to finish the mission as planned.

Thanks,

vvince

Yes, it is possible.

You only need to keep aircraft within the restart envelope (check natops). Move throttle to idle and activate engine ignitors (if mapped). The restart should happen.

If both engines out, the RAT will need to be deployed to have electrical power supply for the ignitors.

Thank's a lot, it works! At least with one engine out, I have not yet tried to restart both of them.
I guess I was out of the airstart envelope before.
For those interested and who do not want to dig in the manual (it's on page 139, I-2-82, Figure 2-16) : speed must be within Mach 0.4 - 1.1, altitude below 23000 feets (can be higher at higher speed).

Cheers

Sorry for the absolutely insane post necro, but where is the RAT handle...? 🥺
Granted, I've started using terminal glasses since I first started flying this aircraft, and I guess I've been lucky with my restarts. But now trying to do some more enthusiastic engine fiddling, I can't find the RAT handle... 🤔😦

I think we made it automatic, or in the MVAMS.

Check the adv manual. I don't recall now, sorry.

Found it, in the ADV manual...

"Note (2): Ram Air Turbine (RAT) will need to be used in the F-4J / S if both generators are offline to avoid a total loss of electric power. RAT is deployed/retracted with FSX/P3D “ APU / Generator (toggle) ” command."
