PC6 engine starts, Prop not turning, instruments inop

Post by williamb » Sun Oct 31, 2021 8:12 pm

Hello,

I need some help. Recently purchased PC6 Order ID#0095996413. Followed instructions on downloading and installing Aircraft. Setup MVAMs to ready to start. Aircraft loads, engine starts-hear engine noise, prop does not turn, aircraft controls do not move with mouse or Saitek 56 joystick. However ailerons and elevator on aircraft move with joystick but rudder does not. I have searched this forum and found similar problems but solutions did not help my situation. I believe there is a XML install problem on my machine.

Thanks you for your help

William

It looks like XMLTools didn't install properly.

Go to the end of this thread and download it, right click and run as admin.

Steve,I did as you recommended. Downloaded the XMLinstaller file. Right clicked and selected run as administrator. This installer first brought up flag asking which Sim to install it in FSXSE or P3D. I selected FSXSE. It indicated XML files were installed. When I ran the PC6 nothing had changed. I am not sure what is going on. Questions/info: where do the installed XML files reside in Sim?, Are the XML files/installers different for each aircraft?

Thanks for any thoughts you may have.

No it's your dll.xml and exe.xml files for FSX. If we are unable to write to those properly or they are corrupted it will not work. Should be located in
C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\

Can you locate these please and open them with notepad and copy paste each here or add them to the forum?

It looks like the XMLTools section did get installed to the dll.xml properly. One last check before I get a dev involved, can you do a search in your FSX directory for XMLTools.dll to make sure an antivirus or something didn't quarantine it?

I've forwarded your post to the team to see if there is anything else we can try. It looks like the XML tools is installed in all the right places and I can't see any other reason that would cause this behavior.

One of the developers responded with this:

"What I would tell him is to do a search for DLL.XML in all of his drives. Sometimes there is more than one copy and the one is being edited is not the one used by the sim. If that is not the cause of trouble, then I would suggest writing the entire path to XMLTools.dll in dll.xml; like <Path>H:\Steam\steamapps \common\ FSX\XMLTools.dll</Path>" Note: that path would be the actual path to your main FSX directory, don't copy paste that.

Steve thanks for your recommendations. I will follow them. I have several questions as I am not familiar with Programing language and form for .xml programs. I also do not know the function of these files. Your specialists indicates the .xml files are written to by the sim. What is function of XMLTools.dll file? Do all Milviz aircraft use these same files? When an aircraft is loaded does the Sim write the instructions to control the aircraft controls, engine propellor, etc. to the dll.xml file. Are these instructions then sent to the XMLTools.dll file? I notice the XMLTools.dll cannot be opened/edited.

I have found duplicates of these files. Should I delete the duplicates and if so how do you which to delete. Or do we just keep one of these files in the proper folders. I notice the path shown by your specialists is the correct path pointing to the location of the XMLTools.dll file. Where in the dll.xml file programing should the path to the XMLTools.dll file be located.

On final thought. Should I consider uninstalling the PC6 aircraft and deleting the dll files from the computer and reinstalling the PC6.

Thanks again for your help

William

I'll try to keep this as simple as possible:

Open the dll.xml file that you posed above with notepad or any text editor

Go to the line where it says: <Path>XMLTools.dll</Path>

Edit to this: <Path>H:\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\<Path>XMLTools.dll</Path>

Save it and try the aircraft again in the sim.

The XMLTools.dll is a file that has functions the aircraft uses, if it can't find that , the things that rely on that file will not work such as animations and gauges.

If this fails , please do an uninstall, then reinstall running the installer as admin (right click the installer, pick run as admin) Also make sure you have excluded your FSX folder from antivirus scans and temporarily turn off AV while running the installer.

I hate to double post, but it looks these have to be approved anyway so if a mod is reading this, I have solved my problem. What I ended up doing is downloading the version of the installer here on the forums, then installing it over my current install. The issue wasn't the plane install it want XMLToolsInstaller doesn't properly install with the version from ORBX or the version you have on your store here. My guess is its an updated version where the install has a bad copy of that file. Anyway, by using the older installer it now properly added the XML tools into the sim and now everything is working for the first time in a LOT of installs.

Thank you! I own another paid product for the PC6 by a different dev, and this one by Milvis is worlds ahead in quality. Love the plane, thanks again.

There were several versions of XMLTools released over the years as P3D was developed then became a 64 bit product. More platforms had to be supported so you will find several versions of it in various products.
