Changing from Heading Lock to Nav How?
I had a flight from Santa Ana to Big Bear Lake VFR. ATC had me depart heading 240 at 2400B. So I set heading and HDG Hold, Set my ALT and used VS at 1000f/m Left AP off. Took off and engaged AP shortly after. Waiting for ATC to clear me, I set the new ALT to 11000 and IAS 180KTS. AP still on.
When I got cleared, I used the FLC and disconnect HDG and enabled NAV. Aircraft continued on the same heading although the PFD said FMS. It did climb When I turned off AP and trued it back on, it engaged the NAV. Is that normal?

A screenshot of your PFD would help in this situation especially the color of the lines.
