if the plane works then you didn't follow the instructions:

1) download and install with Antivirus off
2) make sure that your AV is not scanning the sim directory
3) make sure UAC is off
4) make sure you are running the sim as an administrator (right click on the sim icon)
5) if using P3D, make sure that you are not running (or have run) the estonia migration tool

when you run the aircraft, do you see a MV and or NL in your task manager process?

Should be MV_F86_NL.exe. Is it there in your task manager?

It is the rendering engine that draws the lighting in the sim.

So it is present in your task manager processes? Which simulator are you using?

And there is no fsx.exe in your task manager while running P3D?

How are you trying to control the lights? Left/Right mouse clicks or mouse wheel?

Try the mousewheel instead. I would hazard a guess that your control knobs aren't even moving.
